Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the formation of acetyl phosphate from acetate and ATP. Can also catalyze the reverse reaction. During anaerobic growth of the organism, this enzyme is also involved in the synthesis of most of the ATP formed catabolically. The main pathway for acetate production during exponential phase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Acetate and glucose fluxes in Escherichia coli are determined by the thermodynamic control of the Pta-AckA pathway. PMID: 28186174
  2. pta/ackA recF mutants are viable, suggesting, together with the inviability of pta/ackA recBC mutants, that chromosomal lesions due to the pta/ackA defect are of the double-strand-break type. PMID: 15687190
  3. Deletion of the E. coli ackA gene (together with deletions of other ferementation disruption genes) increased production of succinate PMID: 18781696
