Target Background

Function
Catalytic component of DNA polymerase alpha, which in complex with DNA primase (DNA polymerase alpha:primase) constitutes a replicative polymerase. POL1 has a role in promoting telomere replication during interaction with CDC13.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Degradation of specific nuclear proteins occurs in the cytoplasm in Saccharomyces cerevisiae PMID: 24621829
  2. an N-terminal region of Polalpha (Pol1p) that is evolutionarily conserved among different species interacts with Spt16p-Pob3p and Ctf4p in vivo PMID: 15485923
  3. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, reduced levels of the replicative alpha DNA polymerase result in greatly elevated frequencies of chromosome translocations and chromosome loss. PMID: 15766523
  4. Report the 12 A cryo-electron microscopic structure for the complete 14-subunit yeast Pol I, a homology model for the core enzyme, and the crystal structure of the subcomplex A14/43. PMID: 18160037
  5. Low levels of Pol1p significantly increase recombination in the rDNA array, both between homologues and between sister chromatids. PMID: 18584028
