Target Background

Function
Chemoreceptor involved in light-induced avoidance behavior. Probably acts as a molecular sensor in I2 pharyngeal neurons, required for the inhibition of feeding in response to light and hydrogen peroxide. Involved in circadian rhythms, probably by acting as a light sensor. In contrast to lite-1, does not act as a photoreceptor.
Gene References into Functions
  1. This study demonistrated that the gustatory receptor family members LITE-1 and GUR-3 are required for the inhibition of feeding by light and hydrogen peroxide PMID: 25640076
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Insect chemoreceptor superfamily, Gustatory receptor (GR) family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in I2 pharyngeal neurons.
