Target Background

Function
Seems to be required for maximal rate of protein biosynthesis. Enhances ribosome dissociation into subunits and stabilizes the binding of the initiator Met-tRNA(I) to 40 S ribosomal subunits.
Gene References into Functions
  1. eIF5-CTD (amino acids 241-405; Tif5p-B6) interacted with eIF1A (Tif11p). PMID: 24319994
  2. eIF1 autoregulates translation in yeast and discrimination against poor sequence context in vivo depends on specific domains and residues in eIF1, eIF1A, and eIF2beta PMID: 21930786
  3. The OB-fold is crucial for ribosome-binding and the C-terminal domain of eIF1A has eukaryotic-specific functions in ternary complex recruitment and scanning. PMID: 16193068
  4. Data suggest strongly that the interaction between eIF1A and eIF5 is involved in maintaining the fidelity of start codon AUG recognition in vivo. PMID: 16380131
  5. Location of the mutations suggests that their mechanism of suppression may depend on effects on the conserved G-protein elements: the P-loop and nucleotide-binding element. PMID: 16951075
  6. N- and C-terminal residues of eIF1A have opposing effects on the fidelity of start codon selection. PMID: 17332751
  7. Our results suggest that eIF1 and eIF1A promote an open, scanning-competent preinitiation complex that closes upon start codon recognition and eIF1 release to stabilize ternary complex binding and clamp down on mRNA. PMID: 17434125
  8. A pair of repeats in the eIF1A CTT, dubbed Scanning Enhancer 1 (SE1) and SE2, was found to stimulate recruitment of Met-tRNA(i)(Met) in the ternary complex (TC) with eIF2.GTP and also to block initiation at UUG codons PMID: 20048003
