Target Background

Function

High-affinity iron transporter that mediates under iron-deficiency the iron uptake from the rhizosphere across the plasma membrane in the root epidermal layer. Could also be capable of transporting zinc ions.

Gene References into Functions

Results show that IRT2 appears strictly co-regulated with FRO2 and IRT1, supporting the view that IRT2 is an integral component of the root response to iron deficiency in root epidermal cells. PMID: 19252923
