Target Background

Function
Part of an ATP-dependent transport system LolCDE responsible for the release of lipoproteins targeted to the outer membrane from the inner membrane. Such a release is dependent of the sorting-signal (absence of an Asp at position 2 of the mature lipoprotein) and of LolA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Inhibition of LolCDE leads to significant inhibition of growth and lipoprotein transport. PMID: 27645386
  2. These results indicate that the affinity of LolCDE for apolipoprotein is very low, and therefore, overexpression of LolCDE is required for its release and sorting to the outer membrane. PMID: 21742870
  3. suppressor mutations of the lolE gene that correct the growth defect caused by the LolD mutations were mainly located in the cytoplasmic loop PMID: 16585747
  4. Liganded LolCDE thus reveals molecular events brought about through ATP binding and hydrolysis, LolCDE is the first example of an ABC transporter purified with tightly bound native substrates. PMID: 17038124
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
ABC-4 integral membrane protein family, LolC/E subfamily
