Target Background

Function
Involved in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, by catalyzing the poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation of a limited number of acceptor proteins involved in chromatin architecture and in DNA metabolism. This modification follows DNA damages and appears as an obligatory step in a detection/signaling pathway leading to the reparation of DNA strand breaks.
Gene References into Functions
  1. we have found that although plant PARPs and PARGs have partially overlapping functions Arabidopsis PARP2 and PARG1 play the predominant roles in plant poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation during DNA damage and immune responses. PMID: 25950582
  2. Poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase activity controls plant growth by promoting leaf cell number. PMID: 24587323
  3. Evidence suggests a link between the glutathione pool and PARP expression and activity that is perhaps related to the distribution of intracellular glutathione between the cytoplasm and the nucleus. [PARP2] PMID: 19825628
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
