Target Background

Function

Endonuclease RNase P responsible for the 5' maturation of tRNA precursors. Preferentially binds precursor tRNAs containing short 5' leaders and 3' trailers. Also involved in the maturation of mRNA and small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA).

Data suggest that PRORP2 undergoes conformational changes to accommodate its substrate (precursor tRNA) and product (mature tRNA); the catalytic domain and the RNA-binding domain appear to move around a central hinge; cysteine-specific tRNA(GCA) was used in these experiments. PMID: 28696260
