Target Background

Function
Essential to the early nucleolytic processing of a number of T4 messenger RNAs. Specifically cleaves after the GG dinucleotide GGAG within consensus 5'-GGAGRAYARAA-3' (R is a purine and Y is a pyrimidine) sequences found mainly in translation initiation sites.
Gene References into Functions
  1. specificity and cleavage efficiency of this processing enzyme PMID: 15486207
  2. S1 ribosomal protein functions in translation initiation and ribonuclease RegB activation are mediated by similar RNA-protein interactions PMID: 18211890
  3. determined its structure and identified residues involved in substrate binding; all backbone and 90% of side-chain resonance frequencies were assigned PMID: 19636830
