Target Background

Function
Translation factor necessary for the incorporation of selenocysteine into proteins. It probably replaces EF-Tu for the insertion of selenocysteine directed by the UGA codon. SelB binds GTP and GDP.
Gene References into Functions
  1. SelB is involved in translational regulation of cytotoxic necrotizing factor 1(CNF1) expression but without incorporation of selenocysteine in CNF1 protein. PMID: 21570972
  2. analysis of the thermodynamic and kinetic framework of selenocysteyl-tRNASec recognition by elongation factor SelB PMID: 19940162
  3. structures show that tandem winged-helix motifs not only provide an excellent scaffold for RNA binding but can also have an active role in the function of protein-RNA complexes PMID: 17537456
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
