In the production of the chiA antibody, a rabbit is immunized with recombinant Zea mays chiA (99-320aa), resulting in the production of IgG antibodies by the rabbit's B lymphocytes. Subsequently, the polyclonal chiA antibody undergoes a thorough purification process using the protein G. This chiA antibody serves as a reliable tool for the detection of Zea mays chiA protein in ELISA and WB experiments.
The chiA gene-encoding protein ChitA is a class IV chitinase found primarily in developing maize kernels of Zea mays that possesses endochitinase activity. ChitA contains a small, N-terminal domain that resembles the chitin-binding peptide hevein and a larger, C-terminal catalytic domain that cleaves chitin. It is involved in maize defense against ear rot.
