MELTF, melanotransferrin, is a glycoprotein expressed in a variety of tissues including liver, placenta, spleen and tumour cells.MELTF plays a role in cellular iron metabolism and redox homeostasis, and is able to bind and transport iron ions. Its mechanism of action involves the binding and regulation of ferric ions, which may be related to the storage, transport and release of ferric ions.MELTF may also be involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, and influences the metastatic and invasive ability of tumour cells. In terms of signalling, MELTF may interact with multiple signalling pathways, including those related to the cell cycle, cellular stress response and cell signalling. In biological significance, MELTF plays an important role in maintaining the stability of the intracellular environment and promoting tissue repair and immune response. In addition, the aberrant expression of MELTF is associated with the development of certain diseases, such as tumours, and thus it is also a potential target for disease treatment and diagnosis
